Shlokas are sacred Sanskrit verses found throughout India's ancient spiritual literature, including the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, the Ramayana, and the Mahabharata. Traditionally chanted or sung, they convey spiritual teachings, support prayer and meditation, and have helped preserve ancient wisdom through oral tradition for thousands of years.
Nicki Wells guides students on a journey through the Chakras, with each Shloka corresponding to a particular energy centre through its associated Raag (colour and musical essence). By offering salutations to the deity traditionally associated with each chakra—for example, Shri Ganesh, who is linked to the Mooladhara (Root) Chakra: the resulting vibration of the Shloka promotes balance and wellbeing within that energy centre, creating a deeply meditative and transformative experience.
Singer, songwriter, and composer Nicki Wells graduated with first-class honours in Music before performing at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage. She has collaborated with renowned artists such as Nitin Sawhney, Eric Whitacre, Anoushka Shankar, Joss Stone, and Natacha Atlas.
For over a decade, Nicki toured internationally as a featured artist in Nitin Sawhney’s band. Her voice can also be heard across film and television, including Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, Midnight's Children, The Legend of Hercules, and the acclaimed Human Planet documentary series.
As a composer, Nicki has created scores for contemporary dance, feature films, documentaries, and theatre productions. In 2018, she released her first album of original material under the pseudonym TURYA, followed by an album of ancient Sanskrit shlokas in 2019.
